In the second episode of the #BeachSprint webinar series hosted by the Italian Rowing Federation, the spotlight was on a fundamental – yet often underestimated – aspect of coastal rowing: how to set up the race course.
Led by expert Fabio Patrignani, the session offered deep insights into what it truly takes to create a safe, fair, and high-performance environment for Beach Sprint racing.
🗣️ “From beach mapping to in-water positioning, the goal is to create a course that respects the technical needs of the athletes and adapts to the sea,” said Patrignani.
Building a Beach Sprint course goes far beyond simply placing buoys in the water. It requires a clear understanding of:
- 🌊 Environmental factors such as tides, wind, and wave patterns
- 📍 Precise placement techniques using tools like GPS and alignment markers
- 🚦 Safety standards that ensure a consistent and secure experience for all participants
This webinar was not just theoretical – it provided practical knowledge that coaches, organizers, and coastal rowing enthusiasts can apply directly on their own beaches.
The growing interest in Beach Sprint was clear: over 115 participants joined the session live, reinforcing how this exciting format is capturing the imagination of rowing communities across Europe and beyond.
